Water for water supply network of Kraków is withdrawn from the Rudawa river on the weir in Szczyglice. The withdrawn water is directed to two intake res-ervoirs, for pretreatment and storage to ensure water supply for the time of water quality decrease in the river. At the time of incorrect water quality in the reser-voirs (e.g.during eutrophication) water is withdrawn directly from the river. The water source is selected based on the water quality monitoring in order to provide best possible quality material to the waterworks. The paper presents the structure of water intake during the 8 year period. The percentage share of water with-drawn from the river and from the reservoirs in respect of the volume of treated water was analysed in each year. This percentage changes in time in favor of the intake reservoirs, from 32.0 in 2004 to 88.0% in 2010. The average share in the analyzed period of time reached the following values: intake directly from the river - 40.0%, reservoir I - 41.0%, reservoir II - 19.0%. Changes in the total per-centage of each source occur often, ranging from 100% use to complete resigna-tion from the source. Deteriorating water quality in summer (algae development, increase ...
The Nysa Łużycka River is a relatively poor river in terms of water re-sources which results in strong anthropoperssion. A characteristic phenomenon is a continuous discharge changeability in the river longitudinal profile. Brown coal mining and accompanying them investments, Polish and German mines as well as power plants have a major influence on The Nysa Łużycka river basin. Post-mining working closed in 1997 after German Bezdorf Mine is under rehabilitation by flooding waters of the Nysa Łużycka River and its left tributary, namely The Pliessnitz. The calculation of water resources balance allows to establish such conditions of water intake which represent a compromise between the need to flood the working and the effects of water abstraction on the environment and users located below. It is necessary not only to ensure an ecologically reasonable inviolable discharge but also maintain the minimal discharges guaranteed for 19 Polish and German water power plants. Working resulting from the flooding of the Berzdorf Lake is the main user of surface water in the Nysa Łużycka river basin. The reservoir is situated between the cities of Tauchritz and Klein Neudorf, west of the left bank of the river, about 10 kilometers above Zgorzelec watergauge. The installation ...
The most important issues modern hydrogeology is: exploitation and pro-tection of groundwater intakes. This paper presents, the area where located is the water inake Serby, pos-sibility of using Geographic Information System using applications Arcgis, Surfer for the analysis of archival data and results of field studies. Many geographic, geological and hydrogeological information presented in the described and graphical database. The result was the groundwater model and the protection zone for water intake Serby.

In 1998 the water intake from the Rudawa river for water supply purposes of Krakow was secured by storage reservoirs with a total volume of 981 thousand m3. The reservoirs are designed to improve the quality of water supplied to the Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Water collected in the reservoirs acts as supply used when water quality in the river deteriorates. Simultaneously the water is purified in these reservoirs. The article presents the impact of the reservoirs on the change of water turbidity and colour during the first 11 years of the exploitation of the reservoirs (1999-2009). The analysis was based on the results of the research carried out in five sites of the technological line, from the intake through the storage reservoirs to the raw water well (Młynówka, inflow to the reservoirs, outflow from the reservoir 1, outflow from the reservoir 2, the well of raw water located in the area of the WTP). The reservoirs had beneficial effect on the reduction in water turbidity in the analysed multi-year period. In the raw water well the average water turbidity value was lower than the turbidity of water drawn from the Rudawa river (Młynówka) by 55,33% and the scope of ...
The individual water intakes are an important source of water supply for human consumption in Polish rural areas. The wells are often not covered by research in range of water suitability for human consumption, therefore, a significant number of rural inhabitants use water of unknown parameters, physico-chemical and biological likely to contain contaminants harmful to humans. The main goal of this research has been determination of changes in concentrations of phosphorus compounds in water from wells located in the village Przeździedza. The research has covered the period from March 2009 until February 2010. The six wells constructed of concrete rings or from a stone has been analyzed. The following parameters has been determined: phosphate. The results of this research indicate that, poorly protected wells are characterized by worse water quality. The results confirm the fact that, poorly protected wells are characterized by a poorer quality of water. However, the average concentration of phosphate in all wells was very low, and each of them corresponded to the obligatory standards in Poland.

Types of water abstraction sources for irrigation, examples of water supply and water storage in the farmlands as well as advantages and disadvantages of the suggested solutions were analyzed in the article. In addition, the organizational and legal requirements relating to the groundwater and surface water intakes were discussed. From the point of view of the interests of the farmer it is necessary to know the changes that occurred in the fees and administrative responsibilities related to agricultural water intake, introduced by the new WaterLaw Act since 1 January 2018. The differences between legislation in force and repealed associated with both agricultural water management and environmental protection were demonstrated in the paper. ...
