PRINCIPLES FOR DEVELOPING TREE-LINED ROADS WITH IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY

Green alleys and tree-lined roads or streets have been the topic of debate for many years now and every accident caused by tree becomes an argument for the removal of adjacent trees. Social opinions are shaped by isolated cases of fatal accidents caused by toppling trees, publicized by the media in a way that amplifies the perceived scale of the threat. Efficient hazard prevention requires risk management plans as well as tree monitoring using an objective hazard assessment method. The aim of this study is create principles for developing tree-lined roads with importance of safety. Three models of roadside plantings were developed. They were compared with existing local (30) and main (5) roads where road accidents were reported. It was assessed which road features influence accidents related to hovering on a tree. Large trees near roads do not have to pose a threat to people and property. However, the distance between tree trunks and the edge of the road has a significant impact on safety. ...
