The effect of some growing substrate media on yield and fruit quality of eggplant (Solanummelongena L.) Grown and irrigated by drip irrigation system in green house

The soilless culture of vegetables in greenhouse has increased in Turkey. In recent years, bunch tomato has grown in soilless culture. However, bacterial cancer, virus (TMV, TYLVC) andTutaabsulta are limited tomato growing soilless culture as well. For this reason, others vegetables such as eggplant and pepper can be alternative crop for soilless culture. The aim of the research is determination of growing media such as cocopeat, split mushroom compost, perlite, volcanic tuff and sawdust on yield and fruit quality of eggplant. Our results suggest that mushroom compost and cocopeat media improve eggplant fruit quality more than other growing media. ...

ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SPRINKLING TO PROTECT APPLE BLOSSOMS AGAINST SPRING FROST

Spring frosts can cause very significant losses on fruit farms. The most common method of active protection against frost is sprinkling. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a sprinkling system used to protect apple trees against the effects of a spring frost. The experiment was conducted on the Mączewscy Fruit Farm. The orchard in which the observations were made is equipped with a system of sprinklers. When the temperature readings showed values close to zero, the sprinkler system was activated. Due to a limited water supply, one row of sprinklers had not been activated, and thus some of the trees were not sprayed at all. The assessment of fruit yield carried out in the autumn of 2015 demonstrated high effectiveness of the sprinkling used to protect apple trees against the spring frost. The frost had damaged most of the flowers of the unprotected trees, which resulted in a decrease in yield of as much as 85 - 93%. ...

THE INFLUENCE OF PROPER VINE PRUNING TECHNIQUES ON CROP FORMATION AND QUALITY OF THE GRAPES

We have established the importance of proper vine pruning techniques depending on individual grape variety characteristics and its influence on crop formation and quality of the grapes. The technique of studying the influence of the length of the vine pruning on the qualitative indices of the fruit of the grapes has been  proposed. Field research was carried out in 2014-2016. Agricultural technology in the experiment is commonly used for forest-steppe. The vines are planted on the plot without irrigation, the shape of the shrubs is harp multy sleeved with a knot of substitution, sheltered on a vertical trellis of 1.5 m heigh. The methods thatcan be used to increase the yield of grape varieties in the Poltava region (Ukraine) have been analyzed. It has been established that the coefficient of fructification of apical buds predominantly correlates with the actualyield, which allows to use this link to predict yields by grape varieties. The justification and characterization of the selected methods of vine pruning, which would ensure the obtaining of high sustainable yield and fruit quality, as well as the economic efficiency of growing grapes, have been given. ...
